SAR Trek

Sept. 19, 2009

Port Gamble
Trail System

UPDATE 8/26/09: Added more details about the event.  Added revised versions of the vendor, sponsor, and team brochures to the site.  Extended vendor and sponsorship deadline to September 14.

Join us for a trek through the Port Gamble trail system and fun challenge games in celebration of Search and Rescue Trail Trek (SAR Trek).  Collect donations prior to the event from friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else you can think of.  Compete as an individual or as part of a team (2 or more people) to see who can raise the most to take home great prizes.  If your team is primarily military or emergency response personnel, you can compete as a specialty team!  Each participant receives a fanny pack with all sorts of useful items inside.  Beautiful scenery, fresh air, friends, games, food, vendors, and loads of fun!

Start the morning off with a walk on the trails.  The course is approximately 3 miles roundtrip and has many points to turn around for those who do not wish to do the full course.  After the walk enjoy the competition as individuals and teams compete in search and rescue challenge games.  Prizes will be rewarded for top scores in the games and for the most funds raised.  Take a walk, play games, visit vendor booths, get an expresso, eat a hot dog, and try you luck in the raffle all to help your community!

How to get there: The event will be held in the Port Gamble Event Field.  If you are coming from south of Port Gamble take HWY 3 North.  HWY 3 will turn into HWY 104 East (do not cross the Hood Canal Bridge). The speed limit will drop to 25 mph as you drive through Port Gamble.  Just after you drive out of town you will see the enterance to the event field on the right (it will be marked).  If you are coming from the Kingston area take HWY 104 West.  Follow the signs to Port Gamble and stay on HWY 104 when it turns North.  The event field will be on your left.

Proceeds from the event go to support Washington Explorer Search and Rescue, Kitsap County Unit (WESAR Kitsap)  and All Breed Canine Search and Rescue (ABCSAR).  WESAR Kitsap is a 100% volunteer, outdoor service oriented, non-profit 501(c)3 organization which has been volunteering its time since 1978.  Members are co-ed teens (14 - 20) and adults interested in helping others.  ABCSAR is the canine division of WESAR Kitsap.  ABCSAR is the 3rd largest search dog unit in the state and the only unit that allows youth handlers.  WESAR Kitsap and ABCSAR aid the Department of Emergency Management and Sheriff's Depatment in locating missing people, searching for evidence and helping during disasters. WESAR Kitsap is not a government entity, has no paid staff and does not charge for services. The unit is completely funded by donations and grants.

More information will be posted as we finalize the details of the event.
